The F1 title battle has been blown wide open after Oscar Piastri
suffered a lap one crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Starting
from ninth on the grid, the Australian suffered a disastrous launch
off the line, as he was forced to brake when he jumped the start.
The mistake dropped to the back of the field. As he looked to
recover, Piastri locked up his front tyre and hit the barrier at
Turn 3, eliminating himself from the race. It marks the first time
this year that Piastri has failed to see the chequered flag.
Piastri entered the race weekend 31 points clear of Norris and is
guaranteed to finish today at the head of the championship –
however Norris has been gifted a chance to close the deficit.
Piastri could also be facing further disaster as he is being
investigated for moving before the start lights went out.
