Mick Schumacher says he is relishing his time in endurance racing but made no secret that single-seater racing still sets his heart ablaze.
The former Haas Formula 1 driver is competing this season in the WEC with Alpine, but with a maiden IndyCar test looming next month, the 26-year-old is poised for a potential career-defining moment.
Schumacher has spent two years racing in Alpine’s Hypercar program, earning three podiums along the way. But on October 13, he will climb into a Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Dallara-Honda DW12 for a private test on Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course.
It will be his first outing in a single-seater since completing his Mercedes reserve driver duties last year.
When asked last weekend in Fuji if he still ambitioned t race in a top-level single-seater racing, Schumacher’s eyes lit up.
“One hundred per cent! I have always wanted to do single-seaters,” he said, quoted by Motorsport.com.
“Sportscars has been fun, [but] single-seaters is something I burn for and I love, and I am excited to get back into it.”
IndyCar: A Thrilling “Great Option”
What’s got Schumacher so fired up about IndyCar? It’s the raw, wheel-to-wheel action.
“IndyCar has some great talent, and you can see that the races are pretty fun and there are a lot of battles going on,” he enthused.
“Also, lots of guys out there I have raced against in the junior formulae, and it will be interesting to see them.”

The chance to tangle with old rivals from his karting and junior formula days clearly has him buzzing.
The young German evidently sees IndyCar as a fresh challenge, distinct from both his WEC experience and his F1 days.
“I do want to try out some different classes,” he noted. “I think it will be very different to this [racing in Hypercar in the WEC], but also, I guess, different to F1.”
With rumors swirling about a possible 2026 IndyCar move, he called the series “a great option”, and the test with Rahal could be a pivotal step toward a full-time switch.
A Future Still Wide Open
Schumacher knows time is on his side. “I am still pretty young,” he said confidently, suggesting he could return to sportscars later but is focused on single-seaters for now.
The IndyCar test comes amid whispers that he’s exploring options beyond Alpine for 2026. Sources say he’s been in talks with Jota Cadillac’s WEC team for a Hypercar seat, possibly linked to an F1 reserve role with Cadillac as it enters F1 in 2026.
But the son of seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher is keeping his cards close, but his ambition is clear.
His passion for single-seaters is undeniable, and he’s ready to follow that fire wherever it leads.
