Max Verstappen will be feeding his “addiction” to motorsport by
competing at the Nordschleife circuit this weekend, according to
Dutch racing driver Tom Coronel. One week on from his dominant
victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Verstappen will jump behind
the wheel of a GT3 car at the Nordschleife. The four-time champion
is taking part in a four-hour endurance race with team-mate Chris
Lulham on Saturday, having recently acquired his Nordschleife
licence. Coronel, who has many years of experience in GT racing,,
can understand Verstappen's desire to compete at the German track.
“The Nordschleife, it's like an addiction,” Coronel exclusively
told RacingNews365 . “You can be addicted to drugs, you can be
addicted to alcohol, but he's addicted to motorsport. “If you will,
go to the best, fabulous, most insane circuit on planet earth, then
it's the Nordschleife, the Nurburgring extension, the big one.
“It's one of those bucket list things of a race car driver. We all
know that Max likes driving as much as possible, also in his GT
car.  “Now finally, he got his permit, and now he can drive the VLN
race, which I'm doing already for 15 years. “The 24-hour [race]
I've done already for 14 years. This is one of those circuits which
I'm always excited about if I can drive there.  “[On Friday] we
will drive from four o'clock until seven o'clock on the
Nordschleife. They open it already, so you can get in your rhythm
for tomorrow.  “Max is there as well. So I understand his idea that
he wants to drive there because it's the most horniest circuit on
planet Earth!” Max Verstappen 'capable of winning' at Nordschleife
While Verstappen has become no stranger to success in F1, he is
jumping into a new category with drivers who have vast experience
at the famous circuit. Coronel has suggested that if weather plays
a role, it could put Verstappen at a disadvantage compared to some
of his peers. “It could start raining and you make the wrong
choice, that you put rain tyre or slick tyre, just not at the right
time at the right moment,” he said. “Some people who have the
experience here, they will have the benefit. But he knows what he
is doing, so I'm not worried. “I'm just happy that I will be at the
same time [at] the track, but please don't overtake me on the
outside of the corner, because then all my family will diss me
during the Christmas dinner.” However, Coronel has no doubt over
Verstappen's abilities and expects the Dutchman to be in contention
during the race. “I'm sure that he will be on the podium,” he said.
“I'm sure that he is capable of winning.  “He will be the fastest
out there
