Max Verstappen claimed victory on his endurance racing debut on Saturday as he won a 4-hour race at the Nurburgring in a Ferrari 296 GT3 car.
The four-time F1 champion has made it no secret of his intentions to branch out into other categories of motorsport. Verstappen is an avid fan of sports cars, owning his own team.
The Red Bull driver has hinted at wanting to race in the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring and has been doing several private tests to obtain a permit to compete in the race. Verstappen tested under a fake name to try and draw away media attention.
Setting a lap record of the iconic Nordschleife, father Jos Verstappen said Max was ‘not normal’ after watching his onboard footage. On Saturday, he made his Nurburgring debut in an NLS race alongside Chris Lulham, driving a Ferrari 296 GT3.
Verstappen drove the first two stints and immediately took the lead on the first corner. The Dutchman and Lulham won the race, opening up a 24-second lead when they crossed the chequered flag.
Ferrari F1 fans say Max Verstappen is making them ‘happy’ after winning in their car at the Nurburgring
Unsurprisingly, Verstappen’s win at the Nurburgring has drawn attention from Ferrari fans. They watched as the Red Bull driver won in their car, sporting the colours of one of their rivals.
Verstappen posted a picture on Instagram of himself inside his garage, with the caption: ‘A weekend at the Nordschleife’. Ferrari fans flooded the comments to express their gratitude to the Dutchman for securing victory.
“Making Ferrari fans happy, such a man,” said one fan, while another echoed: “@maxverstappen1 you’re making Ferrari fans happy.” The Tifosi are still searching for their first win of 2025, as Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton struggle with the SF-25.
Some fans even pointed out that Verstappen had won before Ferrari’s F1 drivers could in 2025. One user commented: “Max got a win with ferrari before Lewis,” while another said: “Max Verstappen wins in Ferrari before Leclerc and Hamilton 2025 , Simply Lovley.”
“FRANZ HERMANN WINS IN FERRARI,” said another fan, referencing the pseudonym Verstappen used in his private test. Finally, one Ferrari supporter told the Red Bull star: “We’ll be waiting for you in @scuderiaferrari.”

The Dutchman is keen to take part in other events across motorsport. However, Helmut Marko has ruled out Verstappen racing Le Mans, stating that it is not on his ‘agenda’.
The 27-year-old has hinted at further NLS appearances in the future before his debut in the 24-Hour event. Verstappen would be joining F1 greats such as Jim Clark and Niki Lauda to have taken part in the iconic race.
