The F2 Qualifying 2025 Azerbaijan GP saw Crawford secure the pole position. Fornarolli qualified in second with Mini completing the top three.

First set of laps

The Formula 2 qualifying session in Baku got off to a slightly delayed start due to minor track repairs, with conditions showing 38.1°C track temperature and 25.5°C in the air.

Jak Crawford was the first to push as he looked to avoid the usual traffic chaos. Roman Stanek immediately raised the stakes by going fastest with the best first and final sectors, securing provisional pole. Gabriele Minì slotted in between them, while Victor Martins grabbed third.

Later, Dunne threw down a benchmark lap of 1:55.846 to go quickest overall. Drama followed as Dino Beganovic spun on his flying attempt, and a red flag was brought out when Amaury Cordeel hit the wall at Turn 13. By this point, only half of the grid managed to put a representative lap on the board.

20 minutes remaining

The session resumed under green flag conditions, with Luke Browning the first to head out on track. He matched Dunne’s earlier benchmark to go second. While his teammate Dino Beganovic slotted into third. Stanek could only manage fifth on this run.

Then came a shake-up: Fornaroli jumped to provisional pole with a 1:55.191, which Minì briefly stole. Before Crawford delivered the lap of the session so far, storming to the top with a 1:54.791.

The drama wasn’t over, though, Dunne clipped the wall and limped back to the pits.

Dino Beganovic looked set to challenge Crawford for pole as he went fastest in the opening sectors, but he aborted the lap and returned to the pits without completing it.

That left the door open for Fornaroli, who reached P2, just 0.019s off Crawford’s provisional pole time.

10 minutes left

With the final stages approaching, the field switched onto fresh sets of super soft tyres for a last push.

Rodin managed to repair Dunne’s damaged front suspension, sending him back out to try again.

But the session was quickly interrupted. Victor Martins found the barriers at Turn 3, triggering another red flag.

The final 4 minutes

With a green light, the entire field rushed out knowing there would only be a single lap to make the difference.

Dunne lit up the timing screens with the fastest first sector, but chaos soon unfolded.

Roman Stanek ended up in the barrier when trying to rejoin. He collected John Bennett, who also found the wall in the incident. The crash immediately brought out the red flag, with race control confirming the session would not be resumed.

Results

That sealed the grid as it stood : Jak Crawford clinched pole position ahead of Fornaroli and Minì, with Martins in fourth and Dunne salvaging fifth after his earlier brush with the wall.

Noteworthy mentions include Stanek and Montoya, who qualified 9th and 10th, placing them on the front row for the reverse sprint grid.
