Jak Crawford took victory in the F2 Feature Race at the 2025 Azerbaijan GP for DAMS Lucas Oil. Joshua Durksen took second for AIX Racing, with Dino Beganovic inheriting the final podium position for Hitech TGR.
Crawford lined up in Pole, with Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli joining him on the front row. Gabriele Mini completed the top three.
Lights Out
It was lights out, with Crawford immediately losing two positions at the start. Fornaroli was quick to break the DRS, significantly extending his lead.
Furthermore, the Hitech TGR of Luke Browning also suffered a slow start, losing several positions.
It was an exciting battle between Martinius Stenshorne and Alex Dunne, with both McLaren Junior Drivers fighting for fifth.
By lap two, Crawford regained second from Fornaroli, whilst Stenshorne took fourth from Pepe Marti. However, the Invicta Racing driver triumphed once again, overtaking the American for the lead.
From Lap Two
As the end of lap two approached, Fornaroli already had a +2.2s advantage out front, pulling away from his Championship rivals.
Stenshorne was the one to watch, consistently setting the fastest lap.
Browning was heavily defensive against Joshua Durksen, who briefly brushed the wall. The AIX Racing driver was able to make the move for ninth into Turn 1 straight as they began lap four.
Safety Car
It was a disaster for the Trident of Stenshorne, who found the barriers at Turn 1.
Making his debut in the Championship this weekend, the McLaren Junior Driver was also fighting for a podium in Saturday’s Sprint Race. However, a technical issue also bought his podium charge to an early end.
The Safety Car was deployed, neutralising the race.
On lap seven, the pit-lane opened under the Safety Car. Fornaroli tumbled to fourth as Mini, Crawford and Marti beat him to the pit exit after their mandatory stop.
Green Flag
The green flag was waved into lap eight, with Mini comfortably retaining the lead into Turn 1.
Browning went wide but managed to keep the engine running. He fell into last position and was forced to pit for a second time.
Crawford regained the lead at the end of lap eight. However, aided by the tow as lap nine approached, Mini successfully fought for it again into Turn 1.
Dunne suffered from a lock-up into Turn 4 yet was able to use it to his advantage. He passed Fornaroli for fourth. Using the DRS to his advantage, Crawford took the lead again into lap ten.
From Lap 12
The fight for the lead continued, with the DAMS Lucas Oil driver unable to break the DRS from Mini in second.
There was contact between Dunne and Fornaroli, who hit the rear of the Irish driver. Therefore, the Rodin Motorsport driver was forced into the run-off area and fell into ninth position. Durksen was also able to take fourth in the process.
Dino Beganovic was the next driver closing in on the Championship leader, who had fallen out of DRS range to the AIX Racing driver ahead.
Arvid Lindblad was also making up positions, slotting into eighth after overtaking Dunne and Kush Maini.
The Podium Battle
It was into the final podium position for Durksen, who was able to make the move on Marti into Turn 1.
Crawford was successfully managing the race, with Mini now on the edge of his DRS. By lap 18, the American driver was two-seconds clear out-front. Furthermore, making up another position, Durksen successfully secured second from Mini.
Expectantly, a 10-second time penalty was handed to Fornaroli after his earlier contact with Dunne.
Ten Laps Remaining
With ten laps remaining, Fornaroli attacked Marti into Turn 1 for fourth, a response to his detrimental penalty. Following this, the Invicta Racing driver improved to third on lap 21.
Mini fell down the order again as Beganovic took fourth. The Hitech TGR driver was aiming for a second podium this weekend after achieving his maiden win in the series in Saturday’s Sprint Race.
On lap 24, it was disaster for Dunne once again who found the run-off area at Turn 15 following a front-right brake lock-up. He was forced to retire the car.
Fight For The Lead
Durksen closed the gap to the leader, attacking Crawford for the lead from lap 27. However, showcasing his impressive defence skills, the DAMS Lucas Oil driver maintained the lead until the chequered flag.
Just 0.216s separated them, a crucial moment in Crawford’s Championship title hopes.
