Max Verstappen has signalled his intent to race in the Nurburgring
24 Hours following his stunning victory on debut in a GT3 race on
the Nordschleife. Having qualified in third place, Verstappen
roared into the lead at the rolling start and dominated during his
two hours behind the wheel. Driving his Ferrari 296 GT3 machine,
Verstappen pulled out a maximum lead of 70 seconds over the chasing
pack around the 14.1-mile track before handing over to Chris Lulham
at the two-hour mark. Lulham's stint was punctuated with a number
of yellow flags and slow zones, as his lead was gradually wiped
out, but he still comfortably won by over 20 seconds to hand both
drivers a win on their Nurburgring debuts. Reflecting, Verstappen
was hopeful of a racing return to the Nordschleife.  "Yes, it was
great. The first two stints went really well," Verstappen said.
"The car performs well on a dry track, I already knew that from
qualifying, we didn't make any big mistakes, and to win here on our
first attempt is obviously fantastic. "I didn't see the [first lap
incident involving another car] at the time. I only saw it after my
stints, but these things happen. "Of course, I would love to
compete in the 24-hour race, whether that happens next year or
later, but we still need more experience for that, of course.
"That's a given, so hopefully we can compete in more races next
year."
